Tour Details

Check out the highlights for the Five Days Hike. We can’t wait to give you this unique experience!

Day 1
In the morning, walk up to two amazing waterfalls, Hengifoss and Litlanesfoss. Head back for lunch and in the afternoon continue the hike and walk to the beautiful canyon, Bessastaðaárgljúfur, where interesting traces can be found and its rock formations also have an interesting tale to tell. You will see a remarkable dyke, Tröllkonustígur (Trollwife Path), which goes diagonally up the whole mountain crosses all the escarpments and forms a natural footpath up the mountain. From there the views are spectacular.
Day 2
Today’s hike takes you to an old bridle-path that lies into the mountains. Along it, there is an old wire that stretches down the mountain where hay from distant pastures was sent down the whole mountain until it came to a stop close to the river by the farm. You will see the remnants of a barn and come upon a rock-built round-up shelter that still stands. After a tasty lunch, enjoy indoor and outdoor Wilderness exhibitions on the premises.
Day 3
The hike continues inland towards a deserted farm, where you will hear hilarious stories of its former occupant and have the chance of being ferried across a glacial river on a renovated cable car. The hike continues along the river, along series of waterfalls and through a wild birch forest where lunch will be served. On the walk, you will experience the famous Jökulsárgljúfur canyon and Faxi waterfall. At the end of the day soak in a warm natural spring at Laugafell hostel in the highlands.
Day 4
The hike continues to Eyjabakkar, one of the largest nesting places in the world for the pink-footed goose, with views to Eyjabakkajökull glacier and Mt. Snæfell , one of highest peak in Iceland. After a good walk, finish with a dip in the warm springs at Laugarfell in the highlands.
Day 5
Enjoy an easy and very beautiful trek through the biggest woodland in the country, Hallormsstadarskogur, with spectacular views through the valleys, up to the glaciers and along Lagarfljót lake. Relax, have a coffee and hear stories about he monster in the Lake, which will be the end of the tour.
